When he stopped playing professional baseball in 1947, Rick Ferrell retired as the American League's longest playing catcher of all time. Yet even after 18 seasons and 8 All-Star game appearances, Ferrell went on to round out a sixty-six year career in professional baseball as a coach, manager, scout and front office executive with the Detroit Tigers.
